Labrador Retrievers

THE FALL 2014 PUPPIES ARE HERE:
Asia gave birth to 9 beautiful babies on Thursday, October 2, 2014.  Her labor began early in the morning, and by late afternoon, Asia was ready to have her puppies.  The first little one came when we weren't looking...we heard the pup crying from the next room and jumped into action!  Asia delivered her effortlessly and was busy cleaning her up by the time we got in the room.  The first six puppies were born quickly, while the last three came with resting time in-between.  Asia was super tired at the end of the night and snoring soundly within 10 minutes after the last puppy arrived...or so we thought...   When we retired for the night, sure that Asia was all done (at the time only 8 of the puppies had arrived), everyone was sleeping soundly...mama seemed content with her little arrivals.  When we awoke the next morning, a collarless puppy was nursing in the sea of puppies and we assumed someone's collar had fallen off.  We counted again to see who it could be...and it was the ninth puppy!  She was born sometime overnight and already clean, warm and content by the time we found her.  The crew consists of 4 chocolates (3 girls and 1 boy), 2 cinnamons (1 girl and 1 boy), and 3 dudley yellows (2 girls and 1 boy).  Here is how they sized up:

PINK COLLAR: Chocolate female - 15 oz. @ 4:35 p.m.

THE 2 WEEK UPDATE:
Has it been two weeks already???  Where does the time go?  The puppies now have their eyes open and are starting to walk.  Mama Asia is keeping up with them for now, but soon she will need them to start on puppy food.  Because they can see now, as soon as she goes into the whelp box they are following her around reaching for her and she can barely lay down before they are all nursing!  The weight gain this week has been impressive, and they all had their first nail trimming as well. Here is how the little chow hounds are doing this week:

THE 3 WEEK UPDATE:
The puppies turned 3 weeks old and they are getting so big!  They all have their eyes open now and are starting to walk.  They even can go "potty" all by themselves now...time for the wood shavings!  They chase after mama Asia and try to crawl over the barrier in the whelping box to get to her when she's sleeping in her own space.  Here are how the puppies have weighed in this week:

THE 4 WEEK UPDATE:
The puppies turned 4 weeks old - what a difference a week makes!  They will be starting on puppy food during their 4th week...mama Asia could use some help with these little bruisers!  They have begun to play and explore this week - they even met the kitty!  I think they are more scared of her than she was of them.  Here is how the puppies are sizing up this week (and photo's as promised)...Enjoy!

THE 5 WEEK UPDATE:
The puppies turned 5 weeks old and have now found their "play"!  They had their first meal this week, beginning on Monday and are now up to 2 feedings a day, plus nursing.  The overnight weaning has begun, Asia now sleeps away from her babies and they only see her when it's feeding time.  She doesn't seem to mind...they love to jump on her and bite her ears...she isn't thrilled being a chew toy.  This week on the farm we had our power knocked out by the big storm on Sunday and we didn't get back up and running until mid-week.  Not to worry...we had heat the whole time so the puppies stayed nice and warm (actually...they probably never noticed that we didn't have electricity)!  All the puppies were spoken for, but due to change in circumstance, the only one still remaining is the "orange puppy".  We are starting call backs from the waiting list, so she should be spoken for soon.  **UPDATE** Orange puppy is sold...she is going to live with her sister "Maizy" (from a previous litter)!!  If you haven't already named your puppy - no problem, you can name them when you get them home.  If you have decided on a name, just let me know and we will begin name training.  The weight gains this week have been impressive.  Here is how the little ones have grown...

THE 6 WEEK UPDATE:
The puppies turned 6 weeks old this week...wow are they a big ball of fun now!  They have graduated to eating dry dog food (vs. the watered down food they have been eating), and the craziness that surrounds the food bowl is comical!  They all insist on trying to eat out of one pan even though two are provided - and they don't all fit around one pan.  Usually there are one or two puppies that are on top of the group trying to access the food bowl from a top approach.  Water time is not much different...it is a full body experience and they manage to get soaked from the top of their heads to the tips of their toes.  Their personalities are developing and I will try to share some insight to who they are under their photo's below.  Here is how they sized up this week:

PINK COLLAR: Chocolate female - 7 lb., 8 oz.
LIME COLLAR: Cinnamon male - 9 lb, 8 oz.
RED COLLAR:  Yellow female - 8 lb, 7 oz.
PURPLE COLLAR:  Chocolate female - 8 lb., 1 oz.
BLUE COLLAR:  Yellow male - 8 lb., 7 oz.
YELLOW COLLAR:  Chocolate female - 7 lb., 12 oz.
ORANGE COLLAR:  Cinnamon female - 6 lb., 10 oz.
GREEN COLLAR:  Chocolate male - 8 lb., 11 oz.
TAN COLLAR:  Yellow female - 8 lb., 1 oz.

ZIVA - the most rambunctious of the group and the
instigator of most playful rough-housing.  She can
wrestle with the biggest boys and beat them!  She
loves to chew shoes and pant legs...guard yourself!

GUNNER - the biggest of the bunch, but a mellow fellow.
He is kind of clumsy still and falls over his own feet while
playing most of the time.  He is a chill pill and still a
snuggle buddy!

BAILOR - Such a sweet girl!  She is gaining more
confidence and beginning to explore when out of the pen.
She rushes to the head of the crowd when greeted and loves
to have her ears rubbed.

FREEDOM MAE - Super outgoing and playful - she
barely sat long enough for the photo!  She loves to romp
and play rough - chewing on shoes and pant legs...but still
a cuddle bug with hugs and kisses!

LOKI - such a ham bone!  He is loving and affectionate, yet
playful in bursts.  He would prefer to hang out with people
than his siblings, he's always looking for cuddle time.

Yellow puppy - just like her sisters...yellow has a spirited
side.  She is usually the one on top of the pack of the food
bowl and water bowl - she will not be left out!  She sleeps
upside down most of the time or sprawled out flat on
her tummy.

GINGER - big things come in small packages!  She may be
the smallest, but don't tell her that!  She plays just as hard
as the big boys and usually wins.  Her small size is her
advantage at the food bowl - she crawls under everyone!

COOPER - the quiet one of the group - he isn't rattled by
much of anything, except feeding time!  He loves to sleep,
eat and sleep some more.  He gets in on the action, but
tuckers out quickly...nap time again!

ELLIE:  Super adventurous...sitting still for this photo was
nearly impossible.  Rudolph next to her took a good
beating!  She loves people, and is always looking
for love and action!

THE 7 WEEK UPDATE: FINAL UPDATE
The puppies turned 7 weeks old this week...and they are getting ready to go home with their forever people.  This week we went to the vet and all 9 puppies got a clean bill of health!  Not one problem or complaint, and they tested negative for coccidia - so no Albon was needed either!  These little ones are in optimum health and eating like champs!!  Our adventure began by figuring out how to transport all nine puppies (we usually use cat carriers, but they didn't all fit), so we used a medium size dog crate instead.  The empty crate is about 10 pounds, then add the 85 pounds of puppies...they were incredibly heavy to hoist in and out of the car and through doorways!  We got to the vet and opened their crate door, but no one wanted to be the first to touch the floor.  After we took the first two out, the rest cautiously crept out and began to explore.  By the end of the visit, they were running all over the room, pooping, peeing, playing and chewing anything in sight...including the garbage can and bag.  The vet techs were trampled with cuteness and didn't want them to leave.  We loaded up again and they were all sleeping before we left the building...what a great day!  They slept well last night to say the least.  As we approach this final week, they will be getting ready to leave - which means no more time with mama Asia, getting their final grooming of baths and nails done, and getting their final dose of dewormer.  We will be sad to see them leave, but so happy they all have great homes waiting for them anxiously.  These final photo's are of the group together...so enjoy the cuteness!  (oh...and here are their weights this week too...)

FALL 2014:  PUPPIES ARE COMING...
Asia has been bred to Dudley on August 3rd, and puppies are expected at the beginning of October, 2014.  Historically, pairing these two have given us chocolates, dudley's (deep yellow color with no pigmentation on eyes, lips, nose, or foot pads), classic yellows, and cinnamon puppies.  Updates will be added as soon as they arrive!

FALL 2014:  UPDATE ON BLACK LAB PUPPIES...
Our wonderful Bonnie Blue (black labrador female) had two failed attempts to be re-bred, (spring and fall of 2014) and we have subsequently decided to retire her from the breeding program.  Her one and only litter of black labs were a hit amongst those who received one of her puppies.  There was a waiting list for her highly sought after future litter, but we are of the philosophy that nature must take it's own course, and if it was going to be too stressful on Bonnie to successfully breed without too much intervention, than her delivery would also be too stressful on her as well.  Bonnie will spend the rest of her days as a spoiled princess (only dog) on a nearby farm with her new companion, Donna.

As we are saddened by retiring Bonnie, we are pleased to announce that two new and hopefully future breeders have been added to the farm.  After they have passed the one year test (temperament, training, obedience, socializing) - they will be evaluated and added into the program.  When they are 2 years old, they will attempt to be bred - hopefully with ease and great success!  One of our new females is a dark yellow/cinnamon colored purebred labrador.  The other addition is a light yellow, dudley Labradoodle! We have never bred Labradoodles before, but we have decided to branch out into a new direction and see how these fluff-balls size up against the purebred Labradors.  So far...she is AWESOME!!  More to come in the future about their progress...stay tuned!

FALL 2013:  PUPPIES SOLD-OUT
Our amazing hunting/pointing Chocolate Labrador, "Asia" has been bred to "Dudley Do-Little" and a litter of Labrador puppies are due November 1st.

Asia is a 3 year old purebred chocolate lab with English blood lines.  She has dual registered parents from AKC and UKC.  She is of a short stature and has an otter tail.  Asia is a solidly built Labrador, weighing in at 67 pounds and in prime condition.  This is her 2nd litter, and she is an easy breeder and great mother!

Dudley is an English Red Fox Labrador with green eyes who turned 3 this year.  Dudley has a fan tail, block head and a wavy back coat.  He is a tracker/hunter and can jump an unbelievable 6 feet off the ground from a standing position!  He is gentle jawed with great retriever instincts.

THE PUPPIES ARE HERE:
The puppies from Asia and Dudley Do-Little were born on the evening of November 1, 2013.  Asia was in labor all day and finally at 4:58 p.m., the first of the litter of 8 Labrador's were born.

THE 3 WEEK UPDATE:
The puppies are continuing to grow, and grow and grow!  Their weights are listed below, and the fun has just begun.  They have begun to learn to bark, and the playing has started as well.  We are now in the throws of puppies escaping the edges of the box and have now raised the height of the enclosure to keep the little ones together.  We keep a baby monitor on the puppies at all times and they are only nursing once over night at this time.  We introduced the puppies to wood shavings this week, blankets were starting to get too soiled now that they know how to potty all by themselves.  Mama is still doing a great job and the proof is in their size!  Here is how they have progressed this week (in order of their birth from above):

PINK Collar, Chocolate girl - 3 lb 4 oz.
TEAL Collar, Chocolate male - 4 lb 0 oz.
PURPLE Collar, Chocolate female - 3 lb, 10 oz.

THE 5 WEEK UPDATE:
This week went by so fast!  The puppies were posted for sale on Friday, November 29th and in only 1 week, all the puppies were sold!  Today was supposed to be bath day, but it will have to wait a day or two until I catch up on some other holiday chores at the farm.  The puppies are getting so playful and rambunctious these days.  They have learned to climb over the 10" separator in their pen, so mama doesn't have a private space for herself very often anymore.  Their personalities are developing better now as well, I will try to give a little description under their individual photo's below.  Puppy food and water are a full body experience with these little ones, they literally jump into the pans...and their noses seem to collect the wood chip dust around the little cracks and crevasses.  We are so happy they are all spoken for and that their forever families are excited to have them home in just 3 short weeks.  Here is how they have progressed this week (in order of their birth from above):

PINK Collar, Chocolate girl - 6 lb 0 oz.
TEAL Collar, Chocolate male - 7 lb 8 oz.
PURPLE Collar, Chocolate female - 6 lb, 2 oz.
RED Collar, Yellow/Red female - 6 lb, 4 oz.
LIME Collar, Chocolate male - 6 lb, 3 oz.
ORANGE Collar, Chocolate female - 6 lb, 6 oz.
BROWN Collar, Yellow male - 7 lb, 3 oz.
GREEN Collar, Yellow/Cinnamon male - 6 lb, 15 oz.

(They all gained 1 1/4 lbs+ this week!!)

Pink Puppy is a climber, who loves to instigate play time.
She is the smallest, but don't tell her that!
Teal Puppy is just starting to get into the play time fun,
he likes to sleep and watch the others, mealtime is his most
active time of the day!
Purple Puppy is a fun loving, playful, chewer.  She is the
first one to bite my shoes, pants or hair and loves to be in
the middle of the action.
Red Puppy, or Little Red as we call her is a sweetheart.  She
loves to snuggle and be held.  She is playful, but watches
more than she participates.  She too is a climber!

Lime Puppy is our mellow fellow.  He is so laid back and
sleeping more than anything.  He has a great disposition
and an old man's soul.
Orange Puppy is a character...she really came out of her
shell this week and has a very playful side.  She too loves to
chew shoes and pant legs, climbing is easy for her too!

Brown Puppy is a sweetheart.  He's playful, but laid back
as well.  He is not shy at the food bowl and usually
has to be physically removed from the middle of the food
bowl to make room for others.

Green Puppy is a snuggle-bug!  He craves human attention
more than any other and is always under my feet.  He loves
to be held and cuddled, but he's gently playful as well.

THE 6 WEEK UPDATE:
6 Weeks already!!  The puppies have gotten so big in such a short period of time.  The holiday's are right around the corner and before you know it...your puppies will be home!!  They are continuing to eat like chow hounds.  Mama Asia is trying her best to keep up with them and she is looking so skinny these days, while the pups are plump and healthy.  They received their first dose of dewormer this week and have just started to sleep without mama in the box.  The first couple of nights they cried a little, but the weaning has begun and they are getting used to it better.  They continue to nurse during the day (4x) and are gearing up for 2x feeding of puppy food daily.  Up until now, mama has provided them with plenty, but she is slowing down, so it's time for us to pick up the slack.  Here is how they have progressed this week (in order of their birth from above):

PINK Collar, Chocolate girl - 7 lb 9 oz.
TEAL Collar, Chocolate male - 9 lb 6 oz.
PURPLE Collar, Chocolate female - 7 lb, 10 oz.
RED Collar, Yellow/Red female - 7 lb, 12 oz.
LIME Collar, Chocolate male - 7 lb, 10 oz.
ORANGE Collar, Chocolate female - 8 lb, 0 oz.
BROWN Collar, Yellow male - 9 lb, 2 oz.
GREEN Collar, Yellow/Cinnamon male - 8 lb, 12 oz.

(They all gained 1 1/2 - 2 lbs this week!!  They are twice the size they were when you last saw them!)

Pink Puppy - 6 weeks...still the most rambunctious pup in the
group!  Big things come in small packages :)

Teal Puppy - 6 weeks...getting more into the action, he
loves to play with his sister Red puppy the most.

Purple Puppy "Bella" - 6 weeks...spunky and fun, she thinks
she is bigger than the rest and can climb better than them all.

Red Puppy "Kallie" - 6 weeks...she has found her bark!  She
is sweet and playful, she loves people!

Lime Puppy "Baxter" - 6 weeks...still the mellow fellow of the
group.  He grunts when you pet him and he loves to sleep.
My son calls him "Eyore"

Orange Puppy - 6 weeks...full of life!  She wouldn't hold still
for the photo and tried to jump off the couch!  She is not
shy, and very adventurous!

Brown Puppy - 6 weeks...such a big boy!  King of the food
bowl, water bowl, and first one to greet people...he is a
lovey and a happy-go-lucky little man.

Green Puppy - 6 weeks...such a ham!  He is still always at
my feet, barks for me to hold him, snugly and loves his
belly to be rubbed.  He is most like his daddy!

All the puppies at 1:00 a.m. - just hours old
Bonnie finally took over without assistance after the 3rd delivery and immediately became a doting mother to the litter when the delivery was over.  Despite the crazy heat this week, she has not left the puppies except to eat and go outside...she is an amazing mama!

6 WEEKS OLD:
The puppies are changing so quickly - they are full of life and so very playful.  They had their first dose of dewormer this week, and they are gaining weight like crazy!  On average they have gained 2.11 pounds EACH over the course of 10 days!!  Their next weigh in will be on Tuesday, and their vet appointment is on Friday, July 19th.  Only a couple short weeks left until they all get to go to their new homes.  They are eating three meals a day now, and LOVE water!  Most of the time they are wet/soggy from playing in the bowl after their done drinking it...typical Labs!  Their personalities are really coming out now, and I warn everyone, keep your shoes locked up...they really like shoes (also toes if your not wearing shoes, and their teeth are so sharp now - YIKES).  Here are the latest photo's...enjoy!

THE FINAL UPDATE:
The puppies went to the vet on Friday, July 19th and they are all doing great!  They received their first set of shots and a second round of dewormer (pyrantal).  They did test positive for coccidia worm, so they are on a different dewormer (Albon), which is a pill they take for 9 days.  Each puppy will be sent home with their meds, and you should follow up with your vet (with a stool sample) after they finish their prescription to ensure they are worm free.  They will need their booster shots in 3-4 weeks.  They are gaining weight quite well - they range between 8-10+ pounds now...such a difference from when you saw them last!  On Saturday, July 20th they will be getting their final bath and nail clipping here at the farm.  We will be sad to see them go, but happy as well to know they are all going to great homes.

P.S. - they can climb stairs, and climb over the 2+ foot enclosure...get ready for some puppy fun!

  1. Hey guys...just wanted to give you an update on "purple puppy" aka Bailey! She has totally stolen our hearts! She brings us so much joy and laughter. She went to the vet last week for more shots and she weighs 14.2 pounds. The vet said she is right where she needs to be. He fell in love with her as well. She is very smart. She can sit, shake both paws, lay down, and speak. Daddy is teaching her some commands because she is going to be his hunting buddy! We will continue to keep you updated on Miss Bailey! Thanks again, Kris and Erica
